Research at Maryland Treatment Centers
For over 20 years, Maryland Treatment Centers has proudly conducted research on substance use disorder in an effort to expand our knowledge of effective treatments for addictions and related problems. We are especially passionate about clinical trial research and making effective interventions accessible to those who need them most.
We maintain a robust research portfolio of independent projects and collaborative investigations with highly regarded academic institutions and research organizations. Collaborators have included Johns Hopkins University, University of Maryland, National Institute on Drug Abuse Clinical Trials Network, University of Pennsylvania, Friends Research Institute, and others.

Youth Opioid Recovery Support (YORS) Intervention – Mountain Manor, Baltimore
This study is for young adults (ages 18-26) with opioid use disorder. The study tests an
intervention that combines:
- Home delivery of monthly injectable extended release medications, either XR-
naltrexone (Vivitrol TM ) or XR-buprenorphine (Sublocade TM )
- Family involvement
- Assertive outreach from the treatment team
- Incentive payments (contingency management) for getting medication doses

Combining Pregabalin (Lyrica®) with Lofexidine (Lucemyra TM ) to Treat Opioid
Withdrawal – Mountain Manor, Baltimore Location
This study is for adults 18+ who have opioid use disorder. It tests a new method of
detoxification to get onto XR-Naltrexone (Vivitrol TM ) more rapidly than current methods.

Medication Adherence Therapy- Psychosocial Leverage Using a Significant other (MAT-
PLUS) – Mountain Manor, Baltimore Location
This study is for adults 18+ who have opioid use disorder and are interested in XR-
naltrexone (Vivitrol TM ). It tests whether family involvement and assertive outreach from the
treatment team improves treatment outcomes.
